El complejo de Edipo se caracteriza por ser uno de los ítems centrales en la teoría psicoanalítica de Sigmund Freud, el cual brinda el sustento de su teoría de la formación de la personalidad y del desarrollo psicosexual. El siguiente artículo hace una reflexión que parte del concepto general del complejo de Edipo, sus orígenes, vicisitudes, su influencia en el desarrollo de la personalidad en el ser humano, en este apartado se hace un recorrido por el desarrollo del Ego pre-edípico, llegando a la fase edípica y resaltando de igual manera el influjo de las actitudes de los padres, y por último se abordan las posibles dificultades en la resolución del Complejo de Edipo. A modo de cierre se resalta la importancia de conocer con sumo detalle la influencia de esta etapa tan crucial en la formación de la personalidad del individuo motivo por el cual debe ser estudiada a fondo por el terapeuta psicodinámico.
